EC Vocational Training Action Programme LEONARDO DA VINCI procedure B project LOGIS LV-PP-138.003 (2000-2002) |
|
In 2000 it became clear that one of the main problems, which complicate introduction and application of the complex information processing systems in the logistics and transportation companies, is a low knowledge and skills level. Logistics managers lack valuable skills for the modern ICTE application, but ICTE specialists often do not even have rough notion about logistics. It was decided to develop new training course in Logistics Information Systems, including information about current ICTE technologies and means, which could be used for the creation of the logistics and transport systems. So in 2000 EC Vocational Training Action Programme LEONARDO DA VINCI procedure B project LOGIS LV-PP-138.003 (2000-2002) “Long-distance tutorial network in “Logistics Information Systems” based on WEB technologies” was started. The aim of the project was to develop new training course curricula, lectures and training book in Logistics Information Systems, prepare free access to the e-learning material, as well as to make the experimental introduction of the results and to ensure the series of dissemination activities. --------The project joined Consortium for Logistics Operations (CFLI) (Italy), University of Genoa (Italy), Delft University of Technology (The Netherlands), Linköping University (Sweden), Latvian Transport Development and Education Association (LATDEA), Riga Technical University (RTU), Ventspils University College, Ventspils Freeport Authority and coordinator of the project Latvian Intelligent Systems, Ltd.. All project participants were divided into two main groups. The first working group included specialists, which regarded logistics as technical system from ICTE point of view – “Technicians”. Accordingly, the second group understood the logistics system more from the viewpoint of business process engineering – “Businessman’s”. Each working group contributed to the project results, as well as evaluated other working group’s results. It was the only way, how to reach cooperation between specialists who comprehend one and the same question absolutely different. As the project was interesting, external partners from Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg (Germany) joined the working group and greatly contributed to the creation of the project additional value. Project LOGIS aims were reached. Due to successful and well-considered distribution campaign LOGIS materials in 2005 are already used in more than 26 countries. |

In 1995 within the framework of EC INCO Copernicus Programme project AMCAI 0312 (1994-1997) scientists group was created, which joined specialists from information technologies, transport and logistics, as well as other representatives from the exact, technical and engineering sciences. The task of the group was to get acquainted with the information processing systems operation in the Western European ports. Project aim was to study the problems, which emerge during these complex systems development and operation, as well as to apply the progressive experience in the Baltic Sea region. The group staff kept working also after the end of the AMCAI project. The next project EC INCO Copernicus Programme project DAMAC-HP PL976012 (1998-2000) was devoted to the generalization of the gained experience, as well as to specific research for Venstpils Free Port Authority, Baltic Container Terminal etc. |
